Does not live up to hype

Screen is very difficult to see in the daylight. Light dims very quickly and battery life is poor. Slow in the field responding to signals. Also, had major problems with software crashing.

The Magellan eXplorist GC is one great GPS.
Paperless caching is SO much better than printing out the cache info or writing everything down.
Color screen is bright and easy to read.
Battery life is EXCELLENT as it is with most Magellan units.
The only reason why this unit doesn't rate 5 stars is that it does not track very quickly. It acquires satellites very nicely but when you're on a track to find a geocache, it lags just a bit.
BUT I've found that the Magellan GC as well as the eXplorist 210 (which I started out with) are much more accurate than anything that Garmin has to offer.
For your money, buy the Magellan GC.
You won't be sorry.

THIS GPS WAS MADE SPECIFICALLY FOR GEOCACHING!
I wouldn't recommend this unit for anything other than geocaching. I wouldn't recommend any other unit for geocaching!
Easy to understand interface, paperless caching, quick signal acquisition.
Like any electronic device, keep the firmware version up to date! I say this because mine shipped with the original firmware version & there were issues with really small fonts, but once I upgraded the firmware (easy to do also!) issues were resolved.

i bought my Explorist gc just after it came out. it took a lil gettin used to but i really enjoy using it. it does very well with the batteries that came with it, they rated it @ 18 hours. mine lasted at least 2 weeks if not 3, and there was alot of hours spent just getting used to it. only complaint is there is no owners manual with it. you have to down load it . and there is no phone number to call for support only email bs.
